The Race and Equity Student & Trainee Group aims to offer an opportunity for students to meet and support each other and to share experiences as students who are concerned/interested in issues relating to culture, race and ethnicity in a predominantly white organisation. It also aims to empower students and trainees from minority backgrounds to voice their experiences and thoughts about their courses and their study and functions as a channel for communication and feed-back between students/trainees and the Dean’s Office and the Trust. The Trust is aware of the need to train mental health professionals from all communities and about the need to listen to its current students and trainees from both minority and majority backgrounds in order to do this well.
This Group has been going for about 10 years and was originally set up to support trainees and students from black and minority ethnic communities. However, during the last few years and after discussion with members of the Group it was decided to open the Group up to all trainees and students. This widening of membership also reflects the importance the Trust places on issues of race and equity for all teaching and learning.
