This workshop will introduce participants to the major themes of African psychology, spirituality, identity, culture and community by engaging in critical exploration of the works of Drs. Na’im Akbar, Wade Nobles, Linda James Myers, Marcia Sutherland, Cheryl Grilles, Parham and others.
During this evening workshop, we will explore the usefulness of these models when working with people of African, African-Caribbean descent and other cultural groups who have experienced colonisation.
Participants will also be introduced to some basic experiential exercises to become acquainted with the basic principles of spirituality in African-centred thinking.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is aimed at anyone interested in gaining a basic knowledge of African Psychology and developing and adopting an understanding of African-centered perspectives.
Course Structure
The workshop will include a presentation of theoretical ideas as well as group exercises on African centred psychology in action. There will also be an opportunity for a group discussion.
Possible Outcomes
Participants will:
- Gain knowledge into the conceptual ideas of African Centred Psychology
- Develop insights that will raise awareness and enhance health and social care practice
- Increase levels of self awareness and authenticity in their personal and professional practice

The workshop is repeated on 3 separate dates, on Monday evenings, 6.00pm - 9.00pm.
