    These masterclasses are for people who work with clients of African and or Afro-Caribbean descent in all sectors - private, statutory, public, voluntary and community - who have some knowledge of African Psychology and an interest in working with an African-Centred approach in their work.

    These classes will enable the practitioner to improve their capacity for engaging these clients in the helping relationship. It will be of particular interest to people who have attended the   previous conferences and seminars at the Tavistock centre.

    These masterclasses aim to:

    - Deepen participants understanding of African psychological theory and how it pertains to their work

    - Facilitate the integration of ideas to practice

    - Further develop participants’ insights into personal and professional issues relating to culture and race


    Each master class can stand alone so applicants can choose to do one or more of these sessions.

     

    Programme and Dates

    Participants can register for individual masterclasses or  the whole series.The masterclasses run on Monday evenings, 6.00pm - 9.00pm.

    Racial and ethnic identity development

    An investigation of the various racial identity development models and how they relate to clients of African, Afro-Caribbean descent "availability" for being helped  by practitioners who are from the same or different ethnic origin
