As part of our ongoing commitment to support our students where English is a second language, our students have the option of obtaining additional English language support through one of our partner universities, the University of East London (UEL).
Students are able to purchase the following courses:
1) Pre-sessional Academic English Courses
These courses are for international students who need to improve their academic English. This includes writing, reading and academic presentation skills as well as grammar and vocabulary. The pre-sessional academic English courses vary in length depending on how much English is needed.
Students can arrange this directly with UEL by clicking the link and visiting the UEL website.
Students can meet their English entry requirements by attending a pre-sessional academic English course. The cost varies from £880 for a one month pre-sessional to £3,500 for 5 months of pre-sessional support.
The general English course is run in May and is designed for any student who wants to improve their use of English in everyday situations. The course focuses on key language (grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation) and skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) development. The course is suitable for anyone who wants to improve their overall language level and for those who need to reach the minimum entry level for the pre-sessional courses.
3) In-sessional academic English classes
Where our students require in-sessional academic English classes it is possible for us to negotiate bespoke programmes with UEL. These classes assist students with academic writing and research skills, listening and note-taking, giving presentations and academic vocabulary. These are offered at postgraduate and international level during term time. The aim of the course is to help the student prepare for assignments such as essays and presentations to get the best grades they can. An application includes a small piece of writing to place the student in the best class.
